In partnership with the Ministry of Education, CORE Education and partners are supporting the introduction of the new Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko curriculum content into schools and kura through the National Digital Readiness Programme, Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko. Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko is one of three professional development initiatives from the Ministry of Education that introduces the new Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko curriculum content.

What is Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko?

Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko - the National Digital Readiness programme has been developed to ensure teachers and kaiako are ready to implement the new digital technologies content.

The programme is inspired by the legend of Māui, his kuia Mahuika, and how the source of fire was discovered.

Māui was curious, brave, determined and had a great desire for things to work a bit better. #belikeMāui

Mahuika was reflective, patient and insightful. #belikeMahuika

These are characteristics that teachers throughout Aotearoa can use to help ignite the future of all our tamariki so they can become creators and innovators of digital technologies, not just users.

Te Tokorima-a-Mahuika, the online self review tool

Te Tokorima-a-Mahuika is an online self review tool for teachers and kaiako to assess how ready they are to implement the new curriculum content. You can access the tool here.

Completing the review takes five to ten minutes and all of the results are confidential to the user (unless they choose to share them). It’s been designed with feedback from teachers and it’s for those of you who are already totally ‘switched on’, and those of you who are still on the starter’s block. After you complete Te Tokorima-a-Mahuika you will receive links to some introductory Pīkau or toolkits to start your learning.
