The Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko|Digital Readiness programme was launched in 2017 by the Ministry of Education as a 3-year initiative to support and imbed the new Hangarau Matihiko and Digital Technologies curriculum in kura and schools across New Zealand. We ceased face-to-face delivery at the end of Term 4, 2020. We would like to thank everyone that came on this journey with us.
Our team is in the process of transitioning resources for use in teaching and learning the new Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko content onto Ministry of Education platforms. We will continue to host the teaching and learning resources until we complete the transition.
Please refer to and Kauwhata Reo and Technology Online for contemporary teaching and learning and curriculum support materials for Hangarau Matihiko and Digital Technologies.
We will continue hosting the teaching and learning the new digital technologies and Hangarau Matihiko content onto Ministry of Education platforms.

What is Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko?
Kia Takatū ā-Matihiko, the National Digital Readiness Programme, has been developed to ensure teachers and kaiako are empowered to implement the revised Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko curriculum content in the Technology Learning Areas and Hangarau Wahanga Ako.
The programme is inspired by the legend of Māui, his kuia Mahuika, and how the source of fire was discovered. Māui was curious, brave, determined and had a great desire for things to work a bit better. Mahuika was reflective, patient and insightful. These are characteristics that teachers throughout Aotearoa can use to support all of our tamariki so they can become creators and innovators of digital technologies.
How will this programme support me?
This program will support you to explore two of the technology learning areas within the curricula, Computational Thinking for Digital Technologies (CT) and Designing and Developing Digital Outcomes (DDDO); or Whakaaro Rorohiko and Tangata me te Rorohiko through a range of supports:
You can make use of the Self Review Tool to check your progress with digital technologies. The tool will recommend appropriate Pīkau (toolkits), each of which is an online short course giving useful, practical information and resources to help you understand and confidently deliver digital technologies as a subject.
There are thousands of teachers in our dedicated online community space, Ngā Kiriahi. We encourage you to sign in and engage in content, resources and discussions associated with the readiness programme
Register to join a local meetup in your area or online to engage in new learning as well as share practice and ideas about integrating Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko into classroom programmes.
Rauemi Pīkau are a great way to deep-dive into how you might integrate Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko into your local curriculum in relevant and authentic contexts. These are free curriculum resources available online or by download.
With so much going on, we know the importance of finding helpful supports without any fuss.
To help make things extra easy, a new Resources page has been created. Inside it you'll find posters and flyers, teaching activities, Raeumi Pīkau | Toolkits, and links to other helpful resources - all designed to help support you with understanding and delivering Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko face-to-face and at a distance.
Are you using the above supports and finding your way with the revised Digital Technologies curriculum? Great! Use the Self Review Tool again to check your progress and get more resource recommendations to support you in your continuing journey of learning.
